Abstract
Michael A. Di Giovine, series editor of Lexington Books' Anthropology of Tourism: Heritage Mobility and Society" talks with Frances Julia Riemer, editor of the volume, Re-Centering Women in Tourism: Anti-Colonial Feminist Studies. They discuss the contradictions surrounding gender and womens' roles in tourism, which is simultaneously empowering yet often replicating colonial hierarchies of race, class and gender. A consultant and former NGO development worker in Africa, Riemer is Professor of Educational Foundations and Director of the Women's and Gender Studies Program at Northern Arizona University.
