Abstract
This thesis is the first four chapters of a longer work. It features the introductions of the three main characters: Eko, Bridgette, and Mark. The plot takes place in a futuristic United States where most Americans have secluded themselves within high-security communes and have uploaded their minds into invulnerable bodies. Society is economically run by a virtual reality and social media conglomerate called Plex. During this section, Eko, an immigrant who has lived in the Unites States most of his life, receives an invitation to join this society. He must decide whether to enter the virtual reality paradise of Plex Premium or stay in the only home he knows. Dr. Bridgette Simmons, a burnt out psychologist who has been in her positon for almost seven decades, is contractedly obligated to help transition Eko into this new world. All the while Mark follows orders from a mysterious message that seeks to disrupt Plex’s social order.
