Abstract

As people, we are socialized by ideologies from the moment we are born, and we come to understand ourselves through these ideologies given to us by society. As young adults entering college, students are malleable, so student affairs practitioners must be aware of the ideologies that they are reproducing within their spaces. This thesis will explore the connections between ideology, the ideological state apparatus, and the student affairs professional by looking at the history of colleges and universities through the lens of ideology. Additionally, this thesis will present an intervention in the form of a professional development series for student affairs professionals along with assessment and evaluation tools for the program.
