Abstract
“Praise This World to the Angel” is an album of ten songs, written between August 2023 and April 2026, exploring grief and gratitude as two ways of honoring and being transformed by what is transient but truly loved. This central theme is further elucidated by the titles of the first and final tracks: “An Experiment in Seeing” and “What I Know of Love.” Each song on the album is an attempt to see the people, places, or periods of life that I have loved with the eyes of a visual artist. With voice and piano as the musical backbone of the album, guitars, strings, synths, bass, drums, and sampled sounds come together in music that blurs the boundaries of jazz, classical, chamber, indie, and singer-songwriter idioms.
