Abstract
One of the most significant environmental threats today is climate change. This paper examines the role that increasing gdp has on both greenhouse gas emissions as well as greenhouse gas abatement to determine which of the two will be impacted more by rising incomes. If higher gdp per capita has a more significant impact on greenhouse gas emissions than on greenhouse gas abatement, then as time goes on and as gdp per capita continues to rise in countries around the world, it will become more and more difficult to control greenhouse gas emissions.
