Abstract

During the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown in 2020, anthropologist Michael A. Di Giovine talks with Barbara Shinkle on faith and devotion to Catholic saint and stigmatic St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina. Having suffered the stigmata and lived through the Spanish flu pandemic, Padre Pio not only serves as a model to many during this difficult epoch, but also has become a veritable “pandemic saint” to whom many are turning for the alleviation of suffering related to COVID.
